Polish food grows in UK

DEMAND for Polish food in the UK has been growing at a double-digit rate for a number of years and recorded 15% growth in the 52 weeks to 25 March, says global brand owner Smithfield Foods.

It has identified Scotland as the third largest region in the UK for the chilled Polish category, with a growth rate of 19%, and pin-pointed Aberdeen and Edinburgh.
Key reasons for this growth, says Smithfield, quoting Office for National Statistics census figures, is that Polish is now the number one foreign-born nationality in the UK, plus consumers increasingly trying new cuisines.

Scotland is the third largest region in the UK for the chilled Polish category, with a growth rate of 19%.

A spokesperson said:  “Polish food has gone from strength to strength, and category share for Polish brand Morliny has grown in all segments year on year.  Maintaining its prominence in the world food category and extending beyond this, Morliny now accounts for 32% of all sausage sales in the UK.”
Smithfield reports that dry sausages, have an 11% YOY growth, and grill sausages have 14% growth.
The spokesperson continued: “Morliny has recently launched Slow Cooked Ribs and Pulled Pork, enabling shoppers to cook succulent portions in the oven in just 25 minutes.
“With strong growth in Poland, these products are priced at £4, with a promotional price of £3.”
Both new products come in 500g packs.
