Symbol group’s 12 deals of Christmas make a 2016 return

BEER, wine, spirits and soft drinks will play a major role in symbol group Spar’s UK Christmas marketing campaigns again in 2016.

Big brands and drinks in Spar’s own range feature in a series of offers and activities.

The group’s 12 Deals of Christmas campaign returned this year and kicked off last month on its 12-week programme.

Spar’s 12 deals of Christmas programme is up and running now and the group has a full range of its own wines and spirits on offer ahead of Christmas.

The campaign ran for the first time in 2015, it features promotions and money-off deals every week.

Offers will run once again on  several brands that include Smirnoff, Coca-Cola and Budweiser.

Digital activity to support the promotion includes a dedicated 12 Deals page on the Spar website, as well as ideas for last-minute Christmas recipes,  such as Alcoholic Fudge, and for  party planning.

The website will also feature online videos, and how-to guides for mulled wine and festive champagne cocktails. Support on social media will include posts across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the Christmas section of the Spar website.

Spar Prosecco 11:07
Spar has added new Spar Prosecco Speciale to its own brand wine and spirits range.

On Facebook and Instagram there will be ads on weeks two, three and four of the 12-week campaign, featuring brands such as Smirnoff, Coca-Cola, Budweiser and Spar Brand products.

The group’s own Spar Brand plans to bring fizz to 2016, with the launch of new Spar Prosecco Speciale 75cl (RRP £9), as part of a seasonal alcohol range that also includes: Perlezza Prosecco Brut Spumante 75cl (RRP £7); Perlezza Prosecco Brut Magnum 1.5lt (£20); Perlezza Prosecco 20cl and Chocolates Gift (£5); Spar Irish Cream 70cl (£5); Glen Dhu Whisky 70cl (£11.85); Spar Rios de los Andes Malbec 75cl (£6); Fern Hills Sauvignon Blanc 75cl (£6); Spar Valpolicella Ripasso 75cl £8); and La Vallee des Vignes Sancerre 75cl (£12).

The firm says the launch of the new wine is expected to bring Spar an extra £350,000 in retail sales.

Cath McIlwham, Spar UK head of brand, said: “As shoppers more frequently trade up to premium products during the festive season – either for themselves or as gifts – the launch of our Prosecco Speciale will come at just the right time. Sales of Prosecco outpace Champagne in the UK, and Prosecco represents 64% of all sparkling wine sales, so we are confident our new launch will tap the trend this festive season.

“Alcohol represents a great opportunity for Spar retailers to boost sales in the run-up to the festive season, so it’s essential that we at Spar Brand are offering them a credible, great-tasting range at excellent value prices.”
