SUMMER is a time for barbecues, but Bestway sales director – retail, Richard Holmes, argues that to make the most of the season, convenience retailers need to expand the range of products they stock.
“Retailers have to convince shoppers that going to the multiples is an unnecessary journey by stocking a complete barbecue offer,” he said.
“Over the past year Bestway has de-risked the chilled category for retailers by introducing a range of fresh meat and vegetables under its Best-in label and increasing the frequency of chilled deliveries to depots.”
The barbecue range in depot includes fresh meat – burgers, steaks, chicken, sausages, and other items all available in pre-weighted PMPs, individual cheese slices and fresh vegetables, all under the Best-in label.
• Retailers looking to make the best of barbecue foods should realise that toppings and condiments offer good margins and profit, argues Chloé Féminier Tomkins, UK group product manager at Bel.
She said: “Leerdammer Toastie & Burger makes an excellent topping on BBQ burgers, with its sweet and nutty flavour and thicker slices, it’s ideal for melting on top of burgers.”
