DRINKS distributor Maxxium UK reckons this month’s Father’s Day provides an excellent sales opportunity for convenience retailers and the firm is urging store owners to make the best of their spirits shelves, particularly with whisky and Cognac.
The week leading up to Father’s Day, which this year is on 19 June, accounts for £16m worth of spirits sales with blended whisky taking 20% of that, it says, and malt whisky sales increase by 45%. It argues its lead blended whisky The Famous Grouse and malts like The Macallan, Laphroaig and Highland Park as well as its portfolio’s Courvoisier Cognac should all be considered must-stock items. Courvoisier accounts for 54% of all cognac sold in the channel in the week leading up to Father’s Day, it says.
The Famous Grouse, and Courvoisier, are available in 35cl and 20cl 4-pack cases.
Maxxium says fractional-sized bottles represent 54% of spirits bottles sold in
impulse outlets.
The Macallan Gold, Laphroaig 10 Year Old and Highland Park 12 Year Old are all available in special display cartons.
