Agents welcome Sunday rise

PRICE rises at the Sunday Mirror and Sunday People have been welcomed by the National Federation of Retail Newsagents (NFRN). Both titles went up to £1.10 last month, with a pro rata margin increase for retailers.
The Observer also increased by 20p, with a new cover price of £2.70. The margin, 25%, remained the same.
The Sun on Sunday has also put its price up by 10p, to 70p, with a pro rata margin increase. The NFRN, however, still argues the title is underpriced compared to its nearest rivals.
NRFN president Colin Fletcher said: “Ever so slowly the price of this Sunday red top is creeping up to a more acceptable level but it is still well below that of its predecessor, the News of the World.
“Time and again through our regular meetings with publishers we impress upon them the difficult financial circumstances in which our members are operating so we are delighted that both Trinity Mirror and the Observer have shown that they are listening and are rewarding newsagents with this much-needed boost.”

The products are available, on a first come, first served basis, via the website shoplinkonline.co.uk, the federation said.
