FAMILY-owned farming and food production company Mash Direct last year expanded its chilled vegetable accompaniment range with Mash Pots, a chilled, microwavable snack meal which is now being rolled out in Scotland.
Market research pointed the company towards a healthy, microwavable snack alternative to sandwiches, wraps and burgers. “The new product is totally natural and very nutritious. It positioned us in a different space than where we already were in terms of the supermarkets,” said Mash Direct director Tracy Hamilton.
Flavours include bangers and mash; carrot and parsnip mash with bacon; and creamy bubble and squeak. Pre-launch tastings at the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh and the BBC Good Food Show in Glasgow convinced the company that consumers were keen.
“ The fact that the Mash Pots offer a healthy and filling snack with fewer calories than most ‘lite’ sandwiches, is,” Hamilton added, “an extra bonus.”
