FORMER tennis ace Andy Murray has paid a visit to Walker’s Shortbread‘s factory in Aberlour to surprise employees and factory workers at the site.

The visit builds on Murray’s successful partnership with Walker’s Shortbread and saw the former tennis star discover more about the history of the brand and learn about the generations that have gone into the crafting of the family’s original recipe.

During his visit, Murray met numerous employees at the firm and took part in a guided tour of the factory where he witnessed first-hand how the 128-year-old family recipe has been brought to life and how the firm blends tradition with a modern, large-scale operation.

The former Wimbledon champ also spent time with long-serving employees who all shared their stories about being part of the Walker’s family before he moved on to Elgin to connect with more members of the Walker’s team.

Speaking on his visit, Murray said: “It was great being able to visit the Walker’s factory. I’ve been a partner of Walker’s for a year and a shortbread fan for a lot longer, so to see everything in production and meet the team was really interesting.

“The Walker family hosted me and their passion and knowledge was genuinely inspiring and it was incredible to hear about the business over the past century.”

Nicky Walker, managing director at Walker’s Shortbread, said: “We were delighted to welcome Andy to our home in Aberlour. It was a privilege to show him the business and our production operations.

“It was also fantastic that he took the time to engage with so many members of staff and be available for obligatory photo opportunities.

“Our Speyside factories are where we produce our premium shortbread enjoyed across the globe, and having Andy see this first-hand made the day truly special. We are thoroughly looking forward to continuing our partnership, showcasing Scotland at its finest and celebrating our shared heritage.”
