Multi-award winner Girish Jeeva unveils next major step

MULTI-AWARD winning retailer Girish Jeeva has announced he is planning to change his Barmulloch store over to the Costcutter fascia.
Marking a move away from the Premier symbol, Premier Girish’s @ Barmulloch is set to re-open its doors under the Costcutter branding in late March, a move Girish has said will increase his profits into the six-figures.
The investment into the store is worth a massive £100,000 as Girish said he is now set to build further on his fresh and chilled offer in the Barmulloch store, with access to Co-op own brand through Bestway.
Girish said: “This is an incredibly exciting next step for us. We’ve had a fantastic journey so far and are incredibly proud of what the store has achieved. The move to Costcutter allows us to strengthen our fresh and chilled offer and take the business to the next level.
“We’re investing heavily in the refit and look forward to unveiling the new look Costcutter stores to customers very soon.”
Bestway, the wholesaler behind the Costcutter symbol, has also confirmed that the store will only be moving to the Costcutter symbol initially, not under the dual branded Costcutter and Bargain Booze offer as is often seen south of the border.
As part of a longer-term development plan, Girish has said he is exploring the introduction of Bestway’s hybrid model later down the line. This would form “phase two” of the store’s development plans, targeted towards the end of the year.
Girish is a renowned Scottish retailer in the Glasgow area with a multitude of awards under his belt. Most recently, he scooped up The Innovation Award at the Scottish Grocer Awards on 5 November.

The Barmulloch store has remained at the cutting edge of convenience retail for years now, with new developments constantly being made to ensure the shop is equipped for the modern day.
Most recently, Girish worked with RetailAI to introduce new Smart Watches for his staff members which provide an extra level of communication for those on the shop floor, a more discreet way to check security cameras and a swift way to delegate tasks.
A keen eye on the future and an ambition to match this, Girish believes this next undertaking for the store will elevate his offer and match the demands from his local consumers in the Barmulloch area.
Despite this move for his Barmulloch store, Girish’s other Premier store on London Road in Glasgow will continue to operate under the Premier symbol.
Jamie Davison, retail director at Bestway Retail, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Girish to the Costcutter family. He is one of Scotland’s most entrepreneurial and forward-thinking independent retailers, with an outstanding track record of growth, innovation and community engagement.
“His Barmulloch store is already performing strongly, and we’re excited to support his ambitions as he evolves the offer further under the Costcutter brand.
“Retailers like Girish embody the entrepreneurial spirit at the heart of Costcutter. We’re proud to be supporting his ambitions and look forward to a very successful partnership.”
