French distiller Bordeaux Distilling Co has unveiled its first transparent coffee liqueur with the roll out of the new Brunette Clear Coffee Liqueur.

FRENCH distilling firm, Bordeaux Distilling Co, has introduced an innovative new spirit to the shelves with the launch of its first transparent coffee liqueur, Brunette Clear.

Calling it a worldwide first, Bordeaux Distilling Co has said the new launch will take the battle to waste products in the coffee industry.

Across the globe, the coffee industry is thought to produce over 20million tonnes of waste per year, Brunette Clear aims to overcome this by utilising two by-products of the coffee making process – cascarra (the de-pulped coffee cherry) and coffee blossom.

Both ingredients undergo separate two-week maceration periods in organic grain alcohol before being distilled at low temperatures with a rotary evaporator. This means that the more delicate floral notes of the coffee blossom are allowed to carry forward, and the more fruity, dried-grape tastes of the cascara are retained.

A by-product generated from the filtration process of the company’s Brunette Organic Cold Brew Liqueur is then also pot stilled to produce a third and final transparent distillate. The three distillates are then carefully blended before a six-month resting period, where the alcohol content is reduced gradually to 22% ABV to ensure a smooth final product.

Arnaud Chevalier, of Bordeaux Distilling Co, said: “Passionate about innovation and sustainability, we’re incredibly proud that Brunette Clear not only raises awareness about a key issue such as waste but also increases the functionality of coffee liqueurs.

“It’s already being used by one of the world’s leading bars – Little Red Door in Paris – so we’re incredibly excited to get it in the hands of the UK’s talented mixologists.”

Available from Love Drinks in a 700ml bottle and containing nearly four times less sugar that more mainstream coffee liqueurs on the market, Brunette Clear has zero additives or colourings and comes with an RRP of £31.

Samantha Burke, managing director at Love Drinks, said: “When it comes to innovation and craft, Bordeaux Distilling Co continue to raise the bar and their latest iteration is a clear winner.

“Far from style over substance, Brunette Clear not only tackles waste in a wasteful industry but allows mixologists to take coffee flavours to new elegant and exciting frontiers.”
