Scottish wholesaler keeps stores running in winter weather whiteout

FOOD and drink wholesaler JW Filshill has highlighted the “sterling efforts” of its staff in ensuring KeyStore customers received timely deliveries during the recent spell of wintry weather.
The Renfrewshire-based wholesaler supplies KeyStore across the breadth of Scotland and the north of England and has procedures in place to deal with severe weather conditions and frequently has to implement its resilience strategy in the north of Scotland at this time of year.
In Aberdeenshire and the Highlands, temperatures plummeted dramatically and led to icy road conditions and several inches of snowfall, closing roads and cutting off more rural communities.
Despite these averse conditions, delivery drivers for the wholesalers continued to provide an essential service to many stores across the north of Scotland and make sure that no community went without.
John O’Neil, senior operations manager outbound at Filshill, said: “Our drivers delivering across Aberdeenshire in particular deserve huge praise for their resilience, attitude and determination.
“In some cases, drivers have had to be pulled out from deep snow while attempting deliveries – yet they continued to do everything possible to ensure vital supplies reached communities, including those in areas declared a major incident.
“I want to recognise how admirably our teams have responded to the extremely challenging weather conditions we’ve faced recently.”
O’Neil also pointed towards a “real spirit of community’ throughout this as well, with people stepping in to help one another during a turbulent trading period for many store operators – especially for those stores in areas where the weather was declared as a ‘major incident’.
O’Neil said: “At Filshill, one of our values is being passionate about service, and our staff have truly lived that value during these difficult conditions.”
