SCOTTISH convenience retailer Scotmid has introduced a new way for consumers to support Alzheimer Scotland through a new partnership with micro-donation charity Pennies.

Customer paying by card, contactless or digital wallet can now choose to add an additional 10p donation at checkout, with all donations raised going directly to the dementia support charity. Donations raised in Northern Ireland and the north of England will also go towards Alzheimer’s Society.

Karen Scott, chief executive at Scotmid, said: “We know how much our members, customers and colleagues across Scotland, the North of England, and Northern Ireland care about supporting their local communities.

“This partnership with Pennies gives everyone the chance to help in a way that feels easy and affordable. It’s community compassion in action, 10p at a time.”

The digital micro-donation system is now live across the entire Scotmid family, including Semichem stores, and builds on the retailer’s ongoing commitment to supporting local causes and offers a simple, sustainable way for shoppers to give back in a cashless world.

Additionally, Scotmid’s partnership with Pennies shows how the retailer continues to embrace the modern age whilst still finding ways to support its customers and local areas they live in.

Alison Hutchison, chief executive at Pennies, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Scotmid to the Pennies family. As Scotland’s largest independent co-operative, Scotmid has deep roots in its communities – and this partnership will enable thousands of people to make a meaningful contribution every day.

“Together, we’re harnessing the power of digital giving to reach more people, in more places, for more causes.”
