Claudia Winkleman marks first ‘ambassador-in-chief’ for the National Lottery
HOST of BBC’s Celebrity Traitors, Claudia Winkleman, has been chosen as the first ‘ambassador-in-chief’ of The National Lottery, Allwyn has announced.
Curating a series of powerful and emotive films, the TV presenter has travelled to communities across the UK as part of the ‘Because of You’ campaign to reveal the difference that has been made to people’s lives through the National Lottery’s Good Causes charity.
Since The National Lottery began in 1994, over £50billion has been raised for 650,000 through ticket purchases from consumers. Winkleman has helped to highlight how this money has benefitted many people across the UK and allow consumers to see, first-hand, the positive impact made every time they play The National Lottery.
Winkleman is accompanied on each journey by a local National Lottery player as well to show these players directly how their contribution has helped fund grassroots projects across the UK, including the arts, communities, heritage and sport.
Speaking on the campaign, Winkleman said: “Everyone plays to be in with a chance of winning a life-changing prize, but we are revealing the unwritten story of the difference National Lottery funding makes in every community in every corner of the country.
“Your play is literally making a difference to the lives of millions of people every single day, and I cannot put into words the gratitude and happiness I saw at every single project.Â
“I want to share with the nation a small insight into the difference you make each and every time you buy a ticket – thank you, this is all made possible because of you.”
Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery, said that Good Causes is the cornerstone of its operations and is on track to double the average contribution per week from £30million to £60million by the end of its 10-year licence agreement in 2034.
