Parcel services firm InPost has encouraged retailers to invest in its lockers to help drive up additional sales for convenience stores.

CONSUMER demand for out-of-home delivery services such as delivery lockers has skyrocketed recently.

Offering some extra security for office workers, these lockers provide a massive sales opportunity for retailers to capitalise on and InPost believes its own services will be able to help store owners to turn footfall into profit.

Consumers dread missing a parcel, it can mean a delay to getting a much needed item for a night out or, worse, a package that has gone missing completely resulting in a chain of emails or phone calls to automated answering machines.

As a result, InPost has said it has seen a huge demand for its locker services across the UK as it offers consumers a quick, cheap and convenient form of out-of-home delivery.

A spokesperson for InPost said: “With the lockers’ self-service convenience, parcels can be collected by consumers 24/7. Over half of UK consumers have used them for online purchases, rising to 71% for Gen Zs and 68% for Millennials.

“Nearly two-thirds of users (64%) also say their visit to a store was more convenient thanks to the locker.

“It’s no big surprise then that convenience is the top reason for choosing a locker. These convenience-loving locker users are more affluent too, with 31% having an income over £50k and 39% shopping once a week or more – they spend more and shop more, making them a valuable audience to attract.”

InPost also offers a range of services with some big name brands across retail as well, with a recent tie up adding ASOS packages to the firm’s locker services.

Further to this, consumers also see these lockers as a way to help cut back on carbon emissions across the roads.

With fewer locations for the delivery van to drive to, there will be fewer vans on the road which will then help to cut out emissions – and according to the Retail Economics Report, some 84% of shoppers believe that lockers do offer a greener solution showing a clear interest in the service.

And there’s a benefit for the retailer here as well. According to InPost’s own research, approximately 98% of InPost users visit a convenience store because a locker is there, with over half of this number also noting it made them more likely to return.

Also, the firm found that three in four shoppers will also go into a nearby store before or after using a locker with a third of users spending up to £15 during their visit.

The spokesperson said: “Through our InPost parcel lockers, we offer a low-cost way for consumers to collect, send and return parcels quickly and with ease. We have the largest locker network in the UK, with almost 9,300 parcel lockers nationwide. Thanks to our growing network of lockers and PUDO points, millions of consumers can now choose anytime, anywhere delivery options.

“To capitalise on the rising demand for innovative OOH delivery services, get in touch with InPost here to provide a seamless and convenient parcel collection solution that meets the evolving needs of your customers.”
