Drinks firm Kingsland Drinks has launched two new Ukrainian wine variants to UK supermarkets now with the new Boldgrad Select range.

KINGSLAND Drinks has spearheaded a new deal with Ukrainian Bolgrad Winery that will see its first wines land in the UK.

Claiming it as the first wines from Ukraine to secure a supermarket listing in the UK, Kingsland has rolled out the winery’s Duo White Wine and Saperavi variants from the Southern Ukraine region of Odesa for a limited time.

The seasonal listing aims to tap into the rising consumer thirst for wines from emerging regions, with both wines listed under the Bolgrad Select brand.

The Duo white wine offers consumers a blend of Chardonnary and the native-to-Ukraine Sukholimansky grapes for a balanced dry white wine, with the indigenous grape in particular described as being “highly aromatic” on the nose.

Meanwhile the Saperavi, featuring a grape more commonly associated with Georgia, brings a medium-bodied fruity red says Kingsland, making it ideal for those shoppers that tend to enjoy a Malbec.

Bottles also feature the blue and yellow colours of the Ukrainian flag, adding further stand out on shelf with the eye-catching design. Both variants are available in Lidl GB stores now, with an RRP of £7.99 each.

Kathryn Glass, buying manager at Kingsland Drinks, said: “We are incredibly excited and proud to see Bolgrad wines on Lidl GB shelves – these first two listings are both of a high quality and bring a combination of native and international grape varieties to the drinks aisle.

“We know Scottish consumers will welcome the wines, enjoy the unique styles and show their support for the Bolgrad range.

“Kingsland Drinks has long been a champion of producers of new and interesting varietals from up-and-coming wine regions and this latest listing for Boldgrad in Lidl GB marks a major achievement in placing Ukrainian wines into the mainstream.

“We urge Scottish retailers to follow suit and bring a wider selection of Bolgrad wines onto shelves to offer consumers. the chance to experiment and explore the potential of Ukrainian wines.”
