Fynoderee Distillery co-founders Paul and Tiffany Kerruish have auctioned off the first bottle of their new Refuge Manx Rum to raise funds for the RNLI.

ISLE of Man distillery Fynoderee Distillery is set to auction off its ‘Bottle No.1’ of its new, limited-edition Refuge Max Rum in a bid to raise funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).

All proceeds raised from the auction will go directly to the RNLI, with the auction itself forming part of the lifeboat service’s Isle of Man Gala Dinner, which takes place on 25 October.

This year marks a special evening for the RNLI, as all five stations from across the Isle of Man will come together to commemorate the Institute’s 200th anniversary.

Refuge Manx Rum was allowed to age for one year in the Tower of Refuge on Conister Rock, just off the coast of the Isle of Man.

To help raise further funds here, Fynoderee has auctioned off its new rum release, with an online auction also taking place to ensure everyone can take part, if they want to. The online auction is currently live and can be visited via this link.

The new rum was created by the Ramsey-based distillery to shine a light on the Manx origins of the RNLI. To do so, Fynoderee took 11 quarter-casks of scratch-made Manx Rum to barrel age inside the iconic Tower of Refuge for one year.

The resulting rum has been described as a light amber rum that’s naturally coloured and non-chill filtered with notes of toasted oak, vanilla, salted caramel and bourbon.

Outside of Bottle No.1, the remaining limited batch of Refuge Manx Rum can now be ordered direct from the Fynoderee Distillery website, with 20% of the purchase price from every bottle sold going direct to the RNLI.

Tiffany Kerruish, co-founder of Fynoderee Distillery, said: “We are hoping that people from far and wide with a love for the RNLI will enjoy bidding for this very special piece of RNLI and Manx history.

“To enable as many people as possible to make a bid we have listed ‘Bottle 1’ on the website of local auctioneers Murray’s, so that anyone with access to the internet will be able to bid for this unique, signed ‘number 1’ bottle of Refuge Manx Rum.”
