Scottish comic actress to host industry celebration
SCOTTISH actress of the stage and screen Elaine C Smith is set to return as host of the Scottish Grocer Awards once again.
Following on from her success at the 2023 Awards, when she went down a storm with attendees, Smith will once again host the upcoming Scottish Grocer Awards 2024 at a glittering ceremony at the Hilton Glasgow on 6 November.
Speaking about her return to the major celebration of the convenience channel in Scotland, Elaine said: “I’m really looking forward to hosting the Scottish Grocer Awards for the second year running.
“It was funny how many of the winning stores last year were ones I had actually shopped in. I wonder if I’ll be a lucky charm again this year?!
“It was also lovely to meet some of the wonderful retailers – and I was genuinely moved and impressed by some of their stories. I can’t wait to hear some more tales this year.”
Both a star of the small screen and the stage, Smith is best known for her portrayals of comical characters including Christine from Scottish sitcom Two Doors Down as well as the long-suffering wife Mary ‘Mary Doll’ Nesbitt in Rab C Nesbitt.
Smith also makes an annual appearance as part of the King’s Theatre Glasgow’s Christmas Pantomime and is set to play Mrs Smee in this year’s production of Peter Pan. She has also recently taken a menacing turn on the stage as The Childcatcher in the King’s production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
The Scottish Grocer Awards offers retailers, suppliers and industry members the chance to celebrate the strength of the convenience industry together.
