Meat alternatives brand Squeaky Bean looks to fill a gap in the market for plant-based meat options with its new Crispy Bacon Style Strips.

MEAT alternatives brand Squeaky Bean – part of The Compleat Food Group – has broadened the lineup for consumers with its new Crispy Bacon Style Strips.

Rolling out in selected Sainsbury’s stores as as well as online from the supermarket, the new launch will be available from 25 September with an RRP of £2.75 per 50g pack.

Squeaky Bean said this new launch comes from a rise in demand for bacon substitutes with vegan and vegetarian consumers and the firm cited Vypr data that found that 50% of these demographics said they missed the taste of bacon.

As such, Squeaky Bean reckons it will be able to fill a gap in the market with this new launch, allowing meat-free customers to add in a taste of bacon to sandwiches, salads or eaten straight from the packet.

Jen Herbert, head of marketing at Squeaky Bean, said: “Research shows that bacon continues to come out top of the list of the foods that vegans and vegetarians miss the most, but until now there hasn’t been a plant-based ready to eat bacon that can dare to compare to its meat counterpart.

“At Squeaky Bean, we are all about creating delicious plant-based alternatives that taste just as good as meat, so it felt right to take on the challenge of creating a first to market plant-based ready to eat bacon.

“The result is plant-based bacon with the same characteristic streaks and crispy texture, that are perfect for creating vegan versions of classic dishes such as Caesar salads, BLT sandwiches or maple syrup pancakes.”
