EDINBURGH sour beer brewery Vault City has marked the return of its crowd-favourite brew with its Buckfast-inspired sour beer Black Grape Buckie V.2.

Having sold 7,000 litres of the first release of the sour beer, Vault City has brought back its “Buckie brew” once again to appeal to its thirsty customers.

Available to buy via the Vault City online store, the returning sour beer comes in a 440ml can for £7.95 per can with an ABV of 8.3% to help keep the party going.

Paying homage to the tonic wine that is much loved by Scots consumers, the brew is packed with familiar flavours of sweet stewed fruits, a hint of cough medicine and a juicy twist of black grapes, says Vault City.

Further to this, the brewer has also teamed up with the Leeds-based condiment producer Thiccc Sauce to craft a BBQ Buckfast Glaze which is also available online for £8.

This unique brew follows on from Vault City’s most recent launch of Cereal Spooner Red Berry sour beer which offers consumers a sour beer with the flavour of the sweet tasting milk left at the bottom of a bowl of cereal.

Steven Smith-Hay, co-founder of Vault City, said: “We wanted to create a drink that wasn’t just a beer; it’s a cultural phenomenon in a can.

“We are thrilled about the reception to our Buckfast-inspired brew. Having sold the equivalent of 15,000 cans of this first release, we couldn’t ignore the demand.

“We are proud to bring a taste of Scottish culture to customers far afield and to cater to those looking for more accessible, funky flavours of sour beer.”
