Brewer’s Black and McCallum’s cans get a refresh
SCOTTISH brewer Belhaven has revealed a new look across two of its stout variants, helping to add consistency across its canned beer range.
Following on from the revamp of the Belhaven Best cans last year, the Dunbar-based brand has unveiled the fresh design for Belhaven Black and Belhaven McCallum’s Sweet Stout in 440ml widget cans.
Created in partnership with Scottish drinks agency Thirst, the new designs include a nod to Belhaven’s brewing history using the iconic malting chimneys of Belhaven Brewery in its design, which was similarly captured in the recent refresh of Belhaven Best.
Belhaven Black uses a dark colour palette that takes inspiration from the chocolate and coffee flavours found from the brand’s stout.
And it has been a particularly strong year for the Belhaven Black variant as it has been named as a finalist in the Scottish Beer Awards alongside Belhaven Best.
Meanwhile, the McCallum’s Sweet Stout can be found in a burgundy red colour palette, which the brand is well-known for, to help create a more eye-catching look for the beer.
The new Belhaven McCallum’s cans can be found exclusively via the Greene King online shop as well as the Belhaven Brewery store.
The refreshed designs for Belhaven Best, Black and McCallum’s all take inspiration from the changing face and socialising in Scotland, says Belhaven, as well as the brand’s heritage in Dunbar.
The East Lothian town has seen Belhaven brewing its beers for more than 300 years.
Fiona Matheson, senior brand manager at Belhaven, said: “It’s brilliant to see our beer in the running at the Scottish Beer Awards and we are looking forward to the announcement in September.
“The rollout of the new look and feel for Belhaven Best was a great success and we felt that it was only right that our other iconic beers in the range had their time to shine and aligned with modern drinkers’ preferences, while also continuing to celebrate our heritage.
“We are currently seeing great results for the Belhaven Black refreshed look in the on-trade, with it up 74.4% from 2023 in Scottish Free Trade and we’re excited to see both Belhaven Black and McCallum’s launch into the retail market and draw even more consumers to our delicious beers.”
