UDDINGSTON-BASED biscuit firm Tunnock’s has built up its support for a local charity initiative with a sponsorship across a vintage bus.

As part of the Family and Community Day at the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust (GVVT) – which will take place on Sunday 28 July – Sir Boyd Tunnock has built up support for the charity initiative with the sponsorship of Tunnock’s Caramel Wafers adverts across a vintage bus in its collection.

Based in the last remaining corporation bus garage in Bridgeton in Glasgow, the bus will be one of 130 classic buses, trucks and fire engines on show at the event.

Other buses will be seen ferrying attendees to and from George Square on Sunday for free as part of the charity’s fundraising day.

An avid vintage car collector himself, Sir Boyd expressed his own excitement after the bus was driven to the Tunnock’s factory in Uddingston ahead of the Family and Community Day.

He said: “It’s a thrill to see this beautiful machine out on the road and back to its former glory, especially as it features Tunnock’s adverts form the time.

“I remember, as a boy, travelling on a similar, but older, bus to Allan Glen’s school in Glasgow. It’s fantastic to have those memories again today.

“And isn’t it great that the public can see this bus – and scores of others like it – up close at the GVVT Family and Community day? Our vintage Tunnock’s Fleur de Lys van will also be there.

“I’m sure the event will be a roaring success!”

Steven Booth, chairman of GVVT, said: “There really is something for everyone at the event. We welcomed more than 2,000 visitors last year and we’re hoping to top that.

“We hope our new additions – Your Wee Happy Bus – a children’s driving experience with cab, bell, ticket machine and destination screen, and SIM 1 – a bus simulator for adults and bigger kids which tilts and rocks as you steer and brake, will be a big hit.

“We’re also supporting Glasgow North East Foodbank and are asking visitors to bring along items like tinned meat, tinned custard, breakfast cereal, UHT milk and small jars of coffee to donate.”
