Discounter has ambitious plans for Scotland expansion
MAJOR discounter Lidl has unveiled its expansion plans for Scotland with over 50 new sites listed.
Lidl’s new plans would see 51 new Lidl stores across Scotland, with a further 16 being considered for relocation. This brings the total number of stores to 67.
The news comes as the discounter is set to celebrate its 30th anniversary this year.
Current plans would see Lidl open as many as 10 new stores across Edinburgh alone, with further sites dotted across Scotland’s central belt including Livingston, Glasgow, Falkirk and would see a new store as far north as Inverness.
Richard Taylor, chief development officer at Lidl GB, said: “As we celebrate our 30th year, our commitment to ensuring that all households across the country have access to high quality produce at affordable prices is stronger than ever.
“We’re planning to open hundreds of new Lidl stores but ultimately see no ceiling on our ambition or growth potential. This is why we’re continuing to invest in new locations whilst exploring innovative routes to expansion.
“As we look ahead, we’re excited to welcome even more new shoppers to our existing stores, as well as those we’re planning to open across the country in the coming months and years.”
