Finsbury Food Group rolls out new Celebration cakes with its Thorntons licence.

FINSBURY Food Group has expanded on its range of Thorntons treats with new additions to its line of cakes.

All the new additions make use of chocolate and toffee flavours with a Triple Chocolate Celebration Cake, a Toffee Celebration Cake, an Indulgent Gift Cake – which includes both toffee and chocolate flavours.

And finally, the cake firm has also launched a Celebration Cupcake box, once again making use of both chocolate and toffee flavours with three chocolate cupcakes and three toffee cupcakes. All six also include sauce filled centres.

Finsbury aims to make the most of the demand for indulgence in flavours with its new Thorntons range.

Ross Lowrey-Heywood, development innovation manager at Finsbury Food Group, said: “Most recently, we have seen a refresh of our Thorntons range, which includes two celebration cakes, one chocolate gift cake and a six-pack of cupcakes.

“These cakes are now more indulgent and tastier than ever, and most importantly are topped with a range of delicious Thorntons chocolates – the cherry (or indeed chocolate!) on the cake.”

It’s this point of indulgence that Finsbury is also banking on with its new releases as the firm anticipates a greater uptake in sales for products such as cake going forward.

The firm reckons that the category is seeing a boom in the variety of flavours available to shoppers, something that retailers can not only take advantage of, but would be savvy in doing so.

As such, Finsbury has recommended retailers to stay well-stocked on its range of licensed cakes as customers will easily recognise them and enjoy the novelty of seeing some of their favourite brands as cakes.

Daryl Newlands, head of brands & marketing at Finsbury Food Group, said: “Flavour profiles in cakes are ever-expanding, and consumers are increasingly expecting a wide range of options.

“From a chocolate perspective, flavours like blonde chocolate are coming to the fore, along with brownie and blondie-based celebration cakes and traybakes.

“Indulgent chocolate-based treats, like our Thorntons Gift Cakes, are extremely popular options, particularly around Valentine’s Day.

“But it’s also important that producers can offer popular chocolate brands, like our M&Ms, Mars and Galaxy cake and brownie ranges, at accessible price points, and can stand out on increasingly competitive shelves.”
