Fears voiced over trading conditions

SOME 54% of grocery retail leaders expect trading conditions to deteriorate to July 2023, according to the latest wholesale market report by industry analysts Lumina Intelligence.

It says many wholesale customers are seeking support from businesses and government as consumer discretionary spend will be hard-fought for in the months ahead.

The squeeze on household budgets has been highlighted as the most important long-term consumer trend impacting grocery this year.

But there is a belief that there will be opportunities for c-stores going forward. “An improving outlook due to challenges surrounding Covid easing” was cited in one in four positive responses.
