THE vital role of c-store retailers for communities and the economy has been highlighted by the SGF’s Scottish Local Shop Report.
The SGF conference heard the number of convenience stores increased by 61 to 5098 during the last 12 months, accounting for a total of 49,000 jobs across Scotland – a rise of 16.7%.
Meanwhile, shop owners are working hard to maintain and grow their businesses, with 11% working more than 70 hours each week, 28% taking no holidays throughout the year, and £65 million invested in local stores since 2021.
And 57% of customers in Scotland agree that local shops provide an essential service for their local community.
