Distell International is bringing an award-winning African gin to the UK this month.
Amarula African Gin is a 43% ABV gin made from marula fruit spirit. It marks Amarula’s first foray into the gin category; the brand is best known for its Cream Liqueur.
The new gin debuted on Amazon last month, priced at £28 for a 700ml pack, with Distell planning a wider release across the on and off trades in the UK, Germany, France and Poland. Amarula African Gin is available only in Europe.
According to Distell, Amarula African Gin is the only gin in the UK made from marula fruit. Found in sub-Saharan Africa, marula is a favourite fruit of elephants, who alert local communities to the arrival of harvest time.
Distell will therefore do its bit to support African elephants: £1 will be donated to the Amarula Trust for every 1L sold, supporting the charity’s work with elephant conservation and local communities.
