Sales bubble up for water

Highland Spring sees opportunity

SPARKLING water is on course for a strong year in 2022, according to Highland Spring.

Mike Buckland, marketing controller at Highland Spring Group, highlighted canned sparking water flavours in particular as offering convenience retailers the opportunity to boost sales from their chiller.

“The canned sparkling flavoured water category has experienced encouraging growth in the last 12 months, and we expect to see this continue into the new year.

“It’s definitely one for retailers to stock the shelves with. In the last 12 weeks alone, Highland Spring’s Pear & Elderflower and Blackberry, Plum & Hibiscus cans have proven to be the most popular flavoured fizzy water flavours in the Scottish impulse sector.

“Overall, Highland Spring cans have been well received by our consumers and follows similar growth to the overall category with more than 124,000 units sold in retail since April,” he said.

It’s not all about sparkling though, with Buckland highlighting total category sales growth, which he suggested could continue into the new year.

He said: “The water category as an industry has seen an overall 8% rise in value sales in the last year, with more people keen to keep their hydration habits healthy.

“As we head into 2022, consumers will bear their health in mind more so than ever, and this is something for retailers to be aware of.”
