Classics go plant based

Swizzels range is alright for vegans

VEGANS with a sweet tooth can now enjoy classic Swizzels’ flavours without fear of consuming animal products.

The confectionery maker recently reformulated its Loadsa Chews variant, which is now suitable for vegans.

The £1 PMP sharing bags include some of the brand’s most popular variants, such as Drumstick and Refreshers, in a chew bar format.

Swizzels’ Love Hearts and Parma Violets are also vegan-friendly and available in a £1 PMP hanging bag.

Another vegan friendly option, Swizzels’ new PMP hanging bag, Great British Puds, was invented by a Swizzels fan who won the chance to have her own sweet brought to life through the company’s 90th anniversary Sweetest Invention competition.

Great British Puds includes four individually wrapped chew bars in classic British dessert flavours; Sticky Toffee Pudding, Rhubarb Crumble, Apple Pie & Custard and Lemon Meringue.

The vegan push from Swizzels comes at a time of growth for plant-based products. Swizzels highlighted IGD research that found 22% of shoppers agree they would like a greater choice of more convenient vegan options.

Mark Walker, sales director at Swizzels, said: “As more and more people are becoming conscious of their eating habits and switching to a vegan lifestyle, it can be difficult to identify what type of confectionery is acceptable to consume.

“We want Swizzels fans to feel confident they can still enjoy all of their favourites, which is why we offer an extensive product range suitable for those with dietary requirements, including vegans.”
