Saputo shooting for fully recyclable packs
SAPUTO Dairy has launched new recyclable packaging for its Cathedral City cheese snacking range.
Both Cathedral City ‘with Pickle’ and ‘Lunchpack’ are available in white recyclable PET trays which contain up to 80% recycled material. The new trays are also formed using a reduced gauge, which Saputo said will also use up to 33% less plastic.
The packaging change is the latest in a line of sustainability steps taken by Saputo this year. In the spring, Saputo rolled out revamped packaging for its Cathedral City Slices trays, which are now made using up to 80% recycled content.
In August, the firm took sustainability strides with its Cathedral City Nibbles range. The outer bags used in Nibbles packaging are now made from a recyclable mono-polyethylene laminate material.
All of these changes mean the Cathedral City brand is on track to hit its target of using only 100% recyclable packaging across the entire range by 2022, according to Neil Stewart, marketing controller for the brand.
Stewart said: “Our research and development team is working incredibly hard to develop new packaging solutions which could be recycled in standard household recycling collections in the future, while providing the same quality, protection and safety as our existing packaging.
“We are making great progress towards this ambition and our new snack pack trays and Nibbles recyclable outer film, both launching this month, are a clear testament to our commitment.”
