CJ Lang marked milestone last month
SCOTTISH wholesaler and convenience store retailer CJ Lang celebrated a century of trading in style last month, pulling out all the stops with a big birthday bash.
Retailers and suppliers gathered with the CJ Lang team at the luxury Fairmont Hotel, St Andrews, for the birthday celebrations.
Proceedings got underway in the afternoon, with a major tradeshow featuring over 150 exhibitors from across the convenience spectrum.
Suppliers were also invited to a briefing led by CJ Lang chief executive Colin McLean, where the wholesale boss laid out his vision for the future of the business.
Addressing suppliers at the event, McLean said: “Spar Scotland, loud and clear, we’re back.
“We may have lost our way, but the sleeping giant has awoken and with your help we can take the business forward over the next ten years. It’s a really exciting journey we think we can take you on.
“At the recent Scottish Grocer Awards we won the Best New Store in Scotland.
“That’s a really good example of how we’re starting to get back on the national agenda in terms of winning awards with our store business.”
McLean also informed suppliers of CJ Lang’s new contract with forecourt retailer Penny Petroleum and teased a further major supply contract for the wholesaler that is set to be announced in the coming weeks.
It wasn’t all business at the CJ Lang 100th birthday celebrations however, as 550 guests gathered in the evening for a gala dinner ceremony hosted by former footballer and current Fife Provost Jim Leishman.
Guests were treated to drinks, dinner and entertainment from bagpipe ensemble Red Hot Chili Pipers and live music from covers band The Tzars.
