SHARING is one of the reasons confectionery has continued to show its strength in the past year with an increase in sales of 0.6% to reach a value of £5bn, says Bep Dhaliwal, trade communications manager at Mars Chocolate.
She said: “Entertaining at home or having a big night in continues to be enjoyed by shoppers of all ages, as friends and family.
“A rise in consumption trends like sharing, which has seen consumers favour treat bags and Pouches, as well as boxed chocolates, has contributed to category sales with increases of 6.3% and 1.9% respectively.”
• Since its launch in August last year Cadbury Boost Bites has recorded the sixth fastest unit rate of sale in the chocolate bag category and has a value of £5.9m according to brand owner Mondelez International.
And Mondelez has introduced a new promotional 80g bag with a price-marked flash of £1 to attract more consumers to the brand.
Marketing director Matthew Williams said: “The launch of Boost Bites 108g bag has been hugely successful.
“We are launching the promotional PMP to recruit incremental consumers by giving them more choice and the reassurance of clear pricing.”
He added: “ The new 80g bags are ideal for on-the-go occasions and aim to help independent stores make the most of shopper excitement surrounding this product.”
