Sauces turn up the heat

Summers are getting hotter, if barbecue sauces are anything to go by. Manufacturers are turning the heat up in the battle of the barbie bottles. Figures from Heinz show that in a four year period to 2014 UK spend on hot sauce increased by 54% to a value of £35.5m.

In response, Heinz has added Jalapeño Chilli Ketchup and Sriracha Chilli sauce to its existing range of chilli sauces and ketchups.

And it is putting £4.2m into promoting its full range of sauces with the latest Heinz BBQ Heroes campaign, which will introduce TV ads this year.

Encona has given its range a new look for the new season and revealed that its Extra Hot Pepper Sauce is showing sales growth of 65%.

It’s not all simply about heat, however. The Jack Daniel’s range has been extended by the introduction of Tennessee Honey Barbecue Glaze. It’s backed by online activity including recipe suggestions.

Hellman’s has added an olive oil variant to its mayonnaise range. Available in a 400g jar and a 430ml squeezy bottle, Hellmann’s With Olive Oil has been designed to meet consumer demand for healthier products.
