THE Day-Today store in Cathkin near Glasgow is at the heart of its local community. And that was recognised when it was highly commended in the Community Champion Award in this year’s Scottish Grocer Awards.
As part of the prize, award sponsor Mondelez International gave the store £200 to donate to one of its local good causes.
Cathkin Day-Today passed the cash on to the Cathkin Braes Playscheme. It provides school holiday fun for local children aged 8 to 14.
It’s been run for the last 38 years by friends Frances Dunsmore, Elizabeth Ingram and Rose Kennedy and the scheme is now on to its third generation of schoolkids.
The £200 is likely to be used for a special trip, possibly to the Soar indoor climbing and snow complex at Braehead near Glasgow.
