As many as five million employees could make backdated claims after an employment tribunal ruled that voluntary overtime should be included in holiday pay calculations.
Paul Kenny, GMB union general secretary, said the judgment ensured workers would be properly paid for holidays and clarified that voluntary overtime must be included in holiday pay amounts.
But several employers’ organisations said the ruling, which some observers expect to be appealed, could put financial strain on businesses, many of which are currently fragile.
