SCOTMID is adding magnifiers to its shelves to make checking pack labels easier for people.
Scotmid reckons it’s the first retailer in Scotland to install the i-viewer devices, which are designed to help people with sight problems read ingredients and other information on packaging.
The move follows research from the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), in which 83% of people surveyed said they had problems with reading small labels.
Robin Spinks, principal manager at RNIB said: “Shopping can be a frustrating experience for persons with poor eyesight.
“The i-viewer is an excellent example of how a simple adjustment can make a big difference.”
