Local charity groups across Scotland have received grants from Spar Scotland through the symbol’s Community Cashback scheme.

SYMBOL group Spar Scotland has donated a combined total of £13,000 to local causes through the Spar Community Cashback scheme for 2026.

As part of the initiative’s pledge to help grassroot groups to continue their vital work, Spar Scotland has awarded two grants to Cetacean Research & Rescue Unit and the Missing Pets Dundee & Angus charity who each play an important role in their local areas to support animals, people and the environment.

The Cetacean Research & Rescue Unit received a £10,000 grant from Spar to help further support its ongoing work in marine conservation, field research, education and emergency wildlife rescue.

The charity has noted the funding will help to fill a critical gap in local environmental protections, inspire community stewardship and support future conservationists through some hands-on learning opportunities.

A spokesperson for the Cetacean Research & Rescue Unit said: “Giving back to the community creates a powerful sense of purpose and connection.”

In addition to this, Missing Pets Dundee & Angus received a £3,000 cheque to help support the volunteer-led group to reunite lost and found pets with their owners.

The group has been running for 13 years and the new funding will help to purchase vital equipment, cover repairs and replacements and keep its van on the road to help connect with locals.

Jenni Paton, from Missing Pets Dundee & Angus, said: “To be lucky enough to receive this grant is amazing and it lets us all carry on with what we do for pet owners, without the financial worries.

“We do what we do because we are all animal lovers and care. Helping our community get their pets back safely is paramount. Sometimes, sadly, this means helping owners find closure when a missing pet has passed away. We retrieve and scan them, and help return them home to be laid at rest.

“Having lost my own pet and never getting closure, I know only too well that horrible feeling of never knowing. Closure is always better than constantly searching endlessly for your pet that’s never coming home.”
