Scottish retailer opens first Avens fascia store with support from Nisa Retail

SCOTTISH retailer Zahid Mukhtar has opened his first Avens Retail fascia store in Kirkcaldy with the support of symbol group Nisa Retail.

The store invited members of the local community to its grand opening along with footballers from Raith Rovers as well as MSP David Torrance for the official ribbon cutting ceremony.

Customers benefited from goodie bags, free burgers and Calippo slush iced drinks and were given the chance to enter a raffle in a bid to win a 50″ TV.

The store boasts a new Wine & Beer Cave concept, helping to drive new alcohol products with local customers.

One lucky customers was also given a real life TV experience with the chance to take part in a 60 second ‘Supermarket Sweep’.

Zahid, who operates two other Nisa Local stores through the business Zahid’s Overton Trading Ltd, said: “This new store felt like the perfect opportunity to introduce Avens to the residents of Kirkcaldy and, so far, our customers have been very complimentary about the store.

“The benefit of being a Nisa customers is that they really do support your vision for the store and work with you no matter what fascia features at the front of the store.

“The support I’ve had from Nisa’s retail and format team has been brilliant and they’ve worked hard with us to deliver our vision for Avens and supported our launch event alongside some suppliers.”

The new Avens store boasts a wide range of grocery products for customers to make the most of as well as an impressive food-to-go selection and even a beer cave concept.

The new Avens Deli counter includes a range of freshly made food-to-go items, including an exclusive bake for the store from award-winning bakery Stuarts the Bakers.

Described as a hybrid between a convenience store and a supermarket by store manager Lee Drysdale, the larger store size helps to differentiate from other high street stores.

The store has also partnered with local baker Stuart’s Bakers and Butchers to boost its food-to-go range with its own Avens Deli counter including a new Custard Fudge Doughnut made exclusively for the store.

Asbhan Javid, who operates Nisa Local Overton Road, said: “There’s a great food-to-go offering which is unique, being that the entire selection is made from scratch.

“The menu also changes with the seasons and is regularly updated with specials.”
