UNITED Wholesale Scotland (UWS) rounded off its successful trade show with a James Bond-themed awards dinner.

Attended by over 80 suppliers and more than 200 retailers, the UWS event at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow showcased the latest products and innovations in the industry.

The trade show was followed by UWS’s inaugural Day-Today awards ceremony that celebrated excellence in retail achievements and supplier partnerships.

Day-Today store winners were Bourtreehill – best impulse retailer, Banknock – excellence in customer service, Blantyre – best licensed retailer, Salamander – best vape retailer, Bankton – best symbol store.

UWS also recognised top-performing suppliers in both licensed and non-licensed categories, highlighting their vital role in the industry’s success.

The best non-licensed supplier was Red Bull, with JTI and KP Snacks highly commended. Heineken UK was best licensed supplier, with C&C Group runner-up and Whyte & Mackay highly commended.

Day-Today controller Naeem Khaliq said: “The show not only highlighted the remarkable achievements within retail but also showcased the collaborative spirit and innovation that drives the industry forward.”

ENTRIES for the 2024 Scottish Wholesale Association (SWA) Achievers Awards have hit record levels – with many companies who have not entered the competition before taking part.

With judging on schedule to take place this month and next, organisers have revealed that the number of entrants for 2024 – the 21st year of Achievers – is 20% up on the previous event.

Returning to the O2 Academy Edinburgh, Achievers is the only awards in Scotland dedicated to the wholesale food and drink sector, with 13 wholesale category awards and six supplier awards up for grabs.

A new category for 2024, Best Innovation, will recognise a development that has made a significant difference to the performance of a wholesaler.

Sponsored by industry organisation Scotland Food & Drink, a second new category will reward Scotland’s top Wholesale Local Food Champion.

Supporting suppliers will judge the wholesale categories, supervised by an independent panel of judges with cross-sector experience.

SWA chief exec Colin Smith said: “Achievers has maintained its position as one of the UK’s premier wholesale events over two decades, resonating with the industry and constantly evolving to meet the needs of the Scottish wholesale market.”
