WHOLESALERS across Scotland have chosen staff to lead the charge in finding local sourcing opportunities.

The 14 Wholesale Local Food Champions will work with Scottish producers to help them access new markets.

The champions completed a Scottish Wholesale Association (SWA) training programme – with another round of workshops due to take place on 26-27 July.

James Stewart, a buyer with wholesaler Mark Murphy, said: “I have gained some new skills that will definitely help me in my job and help grow our business and that of the producers we work with.”

Meanwhile, entries have opened for the Scottish Wholesale Association (SWA) Achievers Awards 2024.

The 21st year of the event sees two new categories – Wholesale Local Food Champion and Best Innovation.

Entries will remain open until 31 July – go to www.scottishwholesale.co.uk/achievers-awards-2024/ to make your submission. The awards ceremony will take place at the O2 Academy Edinburgh on 22 February.

SWA chief exec Colin Smith said: “As well as shining a spotlight on the wholesale industry, our suppliers and the people who make it all come together, Achievers celebrates the ongoing innovation and resilience within our industry.”
