The Larder wins £10k

Coatbridge school shop receives £10k in funding

The school store aims to tackle food poverty in the area with the funding boost set to aid this further.

A NEW store designed to tackle food poverty has won the £10,000 top prize of International Beverage’s inaugural Spirit of Our Community Awards.

GlenboigLarder@BHS will provide subsidised food shopping, with members able to buy about £20 of nutritious grocery items for a fixed cost of £4.

Known as ‘The Larder’, the initiative is being set up by community health charity Glenboig Development Trust and Buchanan High Additional Support Needs School in Coatbridge.

The donation from the Airdrie-based spirits producer is being used for the store fit-out in the school foyer, uniforms and to stock the shelves with its first range of products.
