Drams of eastern promise

INDEPENDENT importer and distributor Love Drinks has struck a deal to bring the Kurayoshi Distillery range of Japanese whiskies to Scotland.

The deal includes distributing the Matsui single malt, Kurayoshi pure malt and Tottori blended ranges to the off-trade.

Love Drinks managing director Samantha Burke said: “The Japanese whisky sector has been one of the most exciting internationally in the last few years.

“The Kurayoshi Distillery has an incredible portfolio so we’re looking forward to growing the brand and the enthusiasm for luxury Japanese drinks as a whole in the UK.”

The Matsui single malt range consists of a trio of offerings matured in unique wooden barrels and packaged to showcase Japanese culture.

For the Kurayoshi pure malt selection, the distillery blends pure malts and uses water from Mount Daisen.

There are two blends in the Tottori range. These have been made by combining Japanese whiskies and then ageing them using artisan techniques in American oak barrels for the Tottori Blended Whisky and ex-bourbon casks for the Tottori Bourbon Barrel.
