One promotion and a trio of appointments bolster SGF team

THE Scottish Grocers’ Federation has welcomed three new staff members to the team and promoted Luke McGarty to the association’s top policy job.

Luke McGarty will now serve as head of policy and public affairs at SGF following the departure of Dr. John Lee. Lee now serves as vice president for public affairs at reverse vending machine manufacturer TOMRA.

Jamie Mackie will take on McGarty’s previous post as policy and public affairs officer.

Linsey Hunter has joined the SGF in a newly created events and marketing coordinator position. Hunter brings events experience from a range of organisations to her new role, including stints as event manager at publisher Newsquest and Macdonald Hotels & Resorts.

Lena Robertson has joined the SGF team as receptionist and admin support.

Pete Cheema, chief executive of the Scottish Grocers’ Federation, said: “It is a challenging time for many retailers and shop workers, and more than ever we need strong representation at all levels of government and society. So, I can say wholeheartedly that Lena, Linsey and Jamie are very welcome additions to our team, and I am very much looking forward to working with them over the coming months and years.

“Luke has done an exceptional job for us, and I’m delighted to announce that he is taking on the role as head of our public affairs unit. No organisation is worth anything without its key people and we will continue to work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the viability and success of the Scottish convenience trade continues.”

The new appointments come as the SGF prepares for its annual conference, which will take place at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow over 6 and 7 October.
