Build for the future

Digging in: The Co-op has committed to its Newhouse site until at least 2040.

GROUND was broken at the site of the Co-op’s Newhouse distribution centre last month.

The retailer is building a new £12 million extension to its existing 500,000 sq ft Central Scotland distribution centre. Works involve the construction of a single storey warehouse unit with ground floor office, and parking facilities.

Co-op’s Newhouse expansion follows the announcement that it is committed to the site “until at least 2040.”

Andy Baird, general manager at Co-op’s distribution depot, said: “We are delighted to have committed to the Newhouse site, and with the additional warehouse offering specialist facilities to support our operations, we are making sure we have the right distribution facilities in place to continue to deliver improved services and access to food conveniently for our communities now and in the future.”
