THE Co-op has launched a new initiative designed to improve employment opportunities for under-represented groups.

Co-op has committed to an initial £500,000 investment in a new fund to create apprenticeships for candidates from BAME communities as well as those from low socio-economic backgrounds.

The retailer has called on other businesses to support the scheme and hopes to raise £15m.
Steve Murrells, chief executive of Co-op Group, said: “Apprenticeships are a vital part of the lives of thousands of young people as they start their careers.”
