Christmas was viewed as an important time to support local businesses.

THERE is a growing level of support for local stores, according to new consumer research produced for the Scotland Loves Local campaign.

A poll commissioned by the Scotland’s Town Partnership (STP), – which leads the Scotland Loves Local initiative – revealed that almost two-thirds (64%) of those surveyed said they will always shop on their local high street when they can. The figure represents a 4% increase from when the same question was asked in September.

Over the festive season, 60% of consumers said they agreed it was important to do as much festive shopping as they could from their local high street, either in store or online.

Phil Prentice, chief officer at STP said:  “If there’s a positive which can emerge from the coronavirus pandemic, it’s the greater appreciation of all that’s on our doorstep and an awakening to the fact that supporting local businesses is vital for Scotland’s future.”
