The Great Taste Awards 2020 judges
The Great Taste Awards 2020 were judged by a panel of industry experts.

SCOTTISH producers had plenty to celebrate when the Great Taste Awards 2020 were announced, with 294 different entries picking up prizes.

Following independent judging from a panel of experts, top Scottish performers for this year’s awards included 3-star winners Whisky Smoked Black Garlic Sea Salt from Hawkhead Whisky Smoked in Crookston; Jaffy’s Mallaig Kippers from J. Lawrie & Sons in Mallaig; and Orkney Akvavit from the Orkney Gin Company.

All producers that picked up a Great Taste Award will now be able to display the awards programme’s logo on packs.

This month, those Scottish producers that have picked up a Great Taste Award could be in the running for a further accolade, when competition organiser the Guild of Fine Foods unveils regional winners and the Great Taste 2020 Supreme Champion.

The regional winners and overall champion will be revealed during a virtual Great Taste Golden  Fork awards event.

A spokesperson for the Great Taste Awards 2020 said: “This year’s winners have been found through a combination of remote judging and socially distanced judging sessions, after the lockdown began just one week into the schedule.

“This necessitated a swift and comprehensive reinvention of the Great Taste process to ensure that robust judging standards were maintained and the quality of feedback was not compromised, all in time to provide a much-needed boost for food and drink producers during the all-important Christmas period.”
