SCOTTISH produce is having a great year according to Scottish spud specialist Albert Bartlett.

The Airdrie-based firm revealed that fresh potatoes have been flying in the first half of 2020, with Albert Bartlett outperforming the total category.

Michael Jarvis, head of marketing at Albert Bartlett said: “The fresh potatoes category has experienced strong growth over the past 12 weeks, up 20.7% year-on-year in volume and 13% year-on-year in value.

“Albert Bartlett, now worth over £47 million, is growing ahead of the total category in both volume and in value. The brand has increased in volume and value by around a fifth in the 12 weeks to 14 June, according to Kantar.”

Jarvis added that convenience retailers can peel off some more sales for themselves by using their social media channels, suggesting that a home-cooking focus could pay dividends.

“Retailers should look to take advantage of the spike in home cooking, by advertising Scottish produce on their social channels along with tips, recipes and appetising meal solutions to inspire their customer base,” he said.
