SOCIAL Bite, the enterprising business set up to tackle homelessness, is set to have its products stocked in retail outlets for the first time.

The Scottish ‘social business’ has entered into a partnership with Scotmid, which will see its products sold in two Scotmid stores in Stockbridge in Edinburgh.

Social Bite’s branded products, which are normally only available from the social enterprise’s cafes, include sandwiches and wraps.

Social Bite was founded in 2012. It distributes food and hot drinks to homeless people across Scotland, as well as employing people who have previously struggled with homelessness (approximately one third of its staff).

It also organises an annual ‘Sleep in the Park’ event in December, where people sleep outside in the cold to raise money and awareness of homelessness.

Scotmid joins a star-studded list of Social Bite supporters, with Hollywood A-listers from George Clooney to Leonardo Dicaprio having publicly praised the venture in the past.

Kevin Plant, Scotmid’s head of food retail, said: “It is fantastic to see the next chapter in our ongoing friendship with Social Bite come to life and we’re incredibly proud to become the first stockists of Social Bite’s products.

“As a community retailer, Social Bite’s cause really resonates with our members and customers.

“So we’re excited about introducing these products and certain they will prove to be popular additions to our in-store range available at our stores in Stockbridge – Raeburn Place and Hamilton Place.”
