Spar’s big charity success

Spar gave its carrier bags funds to good causes

SPAR owned stores are celebrating after CJ Lang announced that it had donated £700,000 to local causes, charities, organisations and community groups over the past decade.

From 2008 to 2018, company-owned Spar stores used the funds–which were raised from a 5p carrier bag charge– to donate to organisations like Marie Curie, the NSPCC, Children 1st and local charities.

Colin McLean, CJ Lang and Son Limited CEO said: “I am very proud of the retailers, staff and customers at all our stores for raising such a fantastic amount for good causes since 2008.

“All of these funds have been raised through customer purchases of 5p carrier bags in store and we will continue raising funds this way to support local charities.”

CJ Lang will celebrate its 100th year during 2019, and has more charitable activities planned throughout the year.
