Upper crust award for local butcher

ANGUS-based butcher James Pirie and Son picked up the pastry equivalent of an Oscar when the firm was named Scotch Pie World Champion last month.

Alan Pirie, the son of founder Jim Pirie, was on hand to collect the prize.

He said: “Winning the Scotch Pie World Championship really has been excellent.

“As we’ve done for years, we’ve used good quality Scotch Lamb, good quality Scotch beef, very good seasonings, very good pastry, all handmade with a lot of care and attention.”

The World Championship Scotch Pie Awards is organised by Scottish Bakers.
