Green light for farm

Mackie's

CRISPS, chocolate and ice cream firm, Mackie’s of Scotland has been named Green Family Business of the Year.

Announcing that the firm has also recently become Red Tractor certified, commercial director Stuart Common said: “This means that we’ve passed an official audit to meet environmental and animal welfare standards.

“It’s one of the strongest symbols to have on your product so we’re really proud to have been awarded it.”

Common said that provenance matters to Scottish shoppers, adding: “Obviously some products benefit from being made in Scotland more than others and the food and drink category is one where it can be critically important.

“For example, nobody is fussed if their toilet cleaner is made in Scotland but if their whisky is, then it’s a different story.

“Research shows that Scots prefer to buy Scottish products where possible.

“So long as the quality is the same, if not better, Scots tend to buy Scottish goods on the whole.”
